SQL Server Specialist

Tony has over 20 years industrial experience gained through his work within the IT industry. He is a highly respected and leading figure in the UK SQL Server Community recognised through his work as founder and chairman of the highly successful UK SQL Server User Group and for participation as an Expert at Microsoft events (Ask The Experts and presentation) and finally as part of his contribution as a SQL Server MVP for which he has been awarded yearly since 1998.

Tony is trusted amongst his broad client base from enterprise to university research fellow, a selection of his clients include Redburn Partners, Renault F1, Quartix, Cardinus, Photobox, XMA and Bank of America.

He provides support, development, stand-in DBA resource, migration assistance, troubleshooting, business intelligence and training, basically anything SQL Server centric, he can work remotely using extensive resources at his office and hosting facility or on-site.

Biography

Tony started his IT career in 1986, for the first 7 years he developed using an assortment of mainframe langauges such as PL/1, CICS, DB2, Application System, System W. He served an apprenticehip as a Production Systems Analyst. 1993 saw Tony move into Client/Server development with Visual Basic and Microsoft SQL Server version 4.2, since then he has used many langauges and technologies that have always focused around Microsoft SQL Server. Tony went freelance in 1998.

Since going freelance Tony concentrated more on SQL Server, but still does a fair degree of ASP.NET coding for a number of clients using C# and VB.NET.

Experience Highlights (SQL Community)

Ask The Experts: Answered delegate questions at 'Ask The Experts' booths at a number of Microsoft TechEd Europe, SQL Server 2005 Launch and DeveloperDeveloperDeveloper Day Events.
Chalk and Talks: Presented at the Chalk and Talk sessions in Birmingham, Harrogate and Edinburgh as part of the SQL Server 2005 launch events.
UK SQL User Group: Organised, chaired and presented at numerous events since 1998.
UK SQL Server 2005 Community Preview: This was an initiative by Microsoft UK, Tony recorded a dozen 10-15 minute media presentations on various aspects new to SQL Server 2005.
Using LiveMeeting Tony began a serious of fortnightly SQL briefings where Tony gave a live demonstration, brought the audience up-to-date with SQL news.
Tony participates in a number of Community Leader meetings where new ideas on fostering community are discussed, also guest presenters give presentations  on topics such as Marketing and Microsoft futures.
Member of the organisation committee for DeveloperDeveloperDeveloper 2 and 3.
Tony has received the SQL MVP award yearly since 1998 where he was one of the first SQL Server MVP's in the UK and one of a dozen in the world.
Specific memorable contributions
2 June 2006 Tony and 12 other SQL professionals from my user group met with Jim Gray in London where we discussed database futures.
14 Feb 2006 Presented on 'Using XML, Web Services and CLR to expose and consume a RSS feed' at PASS in Barcelona.
31 Jan 2006 Gave a presentation on Upgrading to SQL Server 2005 for Microsoft at Reading, this presentation was videoed and can be seen here, the presentation was given to over 200 people.
